Thoughts on Love from A Visiting Poet
This week was a delightful combination of great things. But with them came not enough time to do all the other things that usually get done. This week I went to my daughter’s 8th grade play … but I didn’t make it to the grocery store. I experienced connection with other yoga teachers as we chatted during office hours — but I didn’t get as far with planning my retreat as I’d hoped I would. It’s a trade I’m willing to make sometimes because there are experiences that I don’t want to miss. And, it also means I have to be flexible with myself and leave a few things undone.
One thing that didn’t happen was a new blog post for you. So instead, I thought I’d share a poem that recently touched my heart. I hope you enjoy it.
Forms of Love
Sometimes I wonder:
What’s the point?
Why be good? Why care? Why try to change things?
Why — when we continue to wreck each other?
Yet, I keep moving forward.
Not because I am confident of any outcomes.
But because I am still susceptible to sweet things:
a sunset,
a cup of coffee,
a warm blanket,
the smell of lilacs,
the sound of my mother’s laughter -
and all the other forms of love.
Sometimes I wonder:
what would the world look like
if each of us decided to become
a form of love?
